About Lyon OU
Lyon Olympique Universitaire, known simply as Lyon OU or by the nickname "Les Loups" ("The Wolves"), is a rugby union club based in the French city of Lyon, which plays in the Top 14. The team plays its home matches at Stade de Gerland; its home colours are black and red.
📜 Lyon OU History
Lyon OU was formally established in 1898, although its foundation can be traced back 2 years prior to the creation of rugby teams Racing Club de Vaise and Rugby Club de Lyon, which then merged to form Racing Club de Lyon; Racing Club de Lyon was then renamed Lyon Olympique in 1902, and eventually became the present-day Lyon Olympique Universitaire.
Having been defeated in the final of the French Championship in 1931, Lyon OU won its first top-flight title in 1932, and then defended its title a year later. In 2022 Lyon OU won the Challenge Cup, defeating fellow Top 14 side Toulon in the final, and securing the first piece of European silverware in the team's history.
