McMahon Stadium is located north-west of downtown Calgary. Parking nearby is limited, so public transport is typically the best way to get to the venue.

McMahon Stadium does have designated parking lots, but these are only accessible with pre-purchased permits, and the waiting list is usually long. Parking passes may be available from resellers for specific event days.

A popular alternative choice is the University of Calgary Art Parkade (110 University Gate NW) which offers 1,260 spaces over 5 levels. Payment can be made at machines in the building, but bills and debit cards are not accepted. Parking costs a flat rate of CAD $11 before 18:00 and $9 after 18:00. 

Taxi and rideshare services are available in the area. Surge pricing and congested roads may make these options more expensive immediately before or after events at the stadium.

McMahon Stadium is served by the Calgary Transit light rail network. The closest stop is Banff Trail, accessible on the Red Line (or 201) service and located just 400 m (5 min) walk from the stadium.

Families might prefer the quaint and leafy Eau Claire neighbourhood where you’ll find cafes, bakeries, and Prince’s Island Park a short walk away, and the exciting Downtown buzz just a few blocks further.

Alternatively, head out of the city to Kananaskis Country near Banff National Park. Not only does it allow you easy access to the park and its highlights like Cascade Mountain and Lake Louise, but it is also an easy 1 hour’s drive from Calgary.

McMahon Stadium is a Canadian football venue located in Calgary, in the province of Alberta. The stadium is the home ground of the Calgary Stampeders CFL team.

📜 History

McMahon Stadium opened in 1960, designed as a new home venue for the Calgary Stampeders. The original capacity was just under 20,000, but the construction was carried out with a view to future expansion.

The stadium was named after Frank and George McMahon, brothers from Calgary who donated substantial funds to the stadium building project, as well as to the city and the University of Calgary more widely.

Several expansion and renovations projects have been carried out since the initial build. As well as CFL games, McMahon Stadium has hosted the NHL Heritage Classic, the opening and closing ceremonies of the 1988 Winter Olympics, and many high-profile music concerts.
